GUIDE TO OVER INSTALLING REPAIRING WINDOWS XP ALL VERSIONS

First thing to try is : Step one

Put your windows xp cd in the cd/dvd drive. As in the windows xp thats on the computer. then set cd rom as first boot device in the bios . Boot from the windows xp cd go thought the set up. The first time it asks you to press R for repair just press enter then press f8 and agree to the license. It will then ask you again to press R for repair "IF IT DOSE NOT THEN GOTO STEP TWO" this time press R and it will install windows over the top of the one thats currently on your system without losing any data or settings .

Second thing to try : Step two

If when you try step one you don't get the second repair. Boot up from the windows xp cd again but this time when it asks you to press R for repair the first time. Press it.
you will then end up in a dos window. If it asks you to chose your windows . Press the number that is next to windows ie. 1.windows , you would press 1 . if then it asks you for a password . If you have one for the administrator account then enter it here but 9 times out of 10 it's just left blank . After pressing enter you will end up at a c:\ prompt here you type CHKDSK /R /P this will do a scan repair of your hard drive with windows on.
This can take quite a wile to finish but when it dose the go back and do step one again and this time you should get the second repair.

hope this helps
