Anna Nicole Smith's death was caused by an accidental drug overdose, an autopsy has revealed. Police chief Charlie Tiger said the death had "no other criminal elements".

"We found nothing to indicate any foul play," he added, saying there was no evidence of illegal drugs at the scene.

"We have reviewed hundreds of hours of video, tape captured by the hotel security cameras, and we found nothing unusual," he said.

A laptop belonging to the model's boyfriend Howard Stern similarly

revealed "nothing to indicate any foul play".

Mr Tiger said the Anna Nicole case was now closed.

Broward County's chief medical examiner Dr Joshua Perper said Anna died of "combined drug intoxication" with the sleeping medication chloral hydrate as the major factor.

Anna was taking a lengthy list of other medications, including methadone for pain, he said, and a form of 'longevity' drug, often used by celebrities to make them look younger.

His initial examination had revealed no serious injuries to her body.

Prescription drugs, but no illegal drugs, were found in her hotel room, though he would not identify them.

The former Playboy Playmate was found unconscious in a room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on February 8.

She had been seldom seen outside her room during her stay and she was said to be suffering from a stomach bug before she died.

The six weeks since then have been filled with public courtroom drama and private whispers about what might have killed her.

Officials delayed releasing the autopsy results because of additional evidence, not publicly released.

Because her death was so sudden, and because her 20-year-old son Daniel died under suspicious circumstances five months earlier, there has been speculation about possible criminal activity surrounding the deaths.
